Overview
Polynucleotides (PNs) have been used in medicine since the 1980s for the treatment of joint issues. Recently, the benefits of these PNs have been translated into the aesthetics world with more and more patients requesting PNs to tackle fine lines, poor skin quality and more!
I will be discussing the benefits of this super-star treatment for the eye area specifically, although PNs can be used for all over the face!
Move over Tear Trough Filler, there are new kids on the block!
Summary of polynucleotides for the eye area
How do polynucleotides work?
Polynucleotides are made up of chains of nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA. They are extracted from the DNA of salmon. Despite this, they are reported to be safe to use in those with fish allergies.
PNs are not to be confused with dermal filler. They differ completely!
Dermal filler has a great place in the aesthetics world. Dermal fillers are injected under the skin to restore volume, plump and hydrate areas of the Exion Face and Body - think implant. This means that is is very bio-safe and does not react particularly with the body.
PNs on the other hand are extremely bio-active. They stimulate change at the cellular level.
PNs:
Boost fibroblast production
Induce angiogenesis
Inhibit melanogenesis
Boost the synthesis of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid
Have an anti-inflammatory effect
The result: hydrated skin, improved skin quality, reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, reduction in pigmentation and deposition of deep fat (ie filled undereye hollows)
The Protocol
The treatment requires a slight commitment, in comparison to dermal fillers.
The initial treatment requires 3-4 sessions, spaced 3 weeks apart.
After this "loading dose", the results are maintained with 1 session every 6 months.
Results
As PNs stimulate change at the cellular level, results are seen after about 60 days
Downtime
Minimal downtime!
As a cannula is used, expect some possible bruising and swelling.
Safety Profile
PNs are considered safe. They do not sit in the face after injection, therefore we do not have to worry about risks such as oedema (persistent swelling), which is something we tend to worry about in the delicate eye area post tear trough filler.
If you have been refused tear trough treatment in the past due to swelling, come in for a consultation. PNs might be a good option for you!
