A tummy tuck in London removes excess abdominal skin and fat while tightening separated muscles. Performed as a day case under TIVA at our CQC-regulated Baker Street clinic by GMC Specialist Register consultant surgeons. From £5,995.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) in London

A tummy tuckmedically known as abdominoplastyremoves excess skin and fat from the abdomen, tightens the abdominal wall muscles where separation has occurred, and repositions the umbilicus for a natural result. It is the most comprehensive surgical solution for abdominal skin laxity and is one of the most commonly performed procedures at Centre for Surgery.

The procedure is particularly suited to three patient groups. First, women following pregnancy — particularly those with significant skin excess, stretch marks or diastasis recti that has not resolved with physiotherapy. Second, patients following major weight loss — where the abdominal skin has permanently lost its elasticity and hangs regardless of weight maintenance. Third, patients with age-related abdominal skin laxity and muscle weakness where non-surgical approaches have produced no meaningful improvement.

At Centre for Surgery, all tummy tuck procedures include liposuction of the abdomen and flanks using the — removing fat simultaneously with skin excision for a more complete contour result. The procedure is performed as a day case under at our by consultant surgeons on the GMC Specialist Register. Centre for Surgery is one of a small number of providers in the UK that performs abdominoplasty as a day-case procedure.

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty addresses three distinct anatomical concerns that non-surgical treatments cannot resolve: excess skin, stubborn fat and separated abdominal muscles. Understanding which of these applies to you — and to what degree — determines the type of tummy tuck most appropriate.

Skin that has been significantly stretched — by pregnancy, major weight loss or both — loses its elasticity permanently. No amount of exercise, massage or non-surgical energy treatment can remove this skin. Abdominoplasty excises it surgically, producing a flat, smooth abdominal surface.

At Centre for Surgery, all tummy tuck procedures include SAFElipo[https://www.eleganzaaesthetics.Co.uk/ liposuction] of the abdomen and flanks at the same session. This removes fat simultaneously with skin excision and produces a more refined contour than skin excision alone.

During pregnancy, the rectus abdominis muscles can separate along the midline — a condition called diastasis recti. This creates a central bulge that persists regardless of fitness and cannot be repaired non-surgically. Abdominoplasty includes surgical repair of the muscle layer — restoring core stability, narrowing the torso and producing a flat midline contour. See: | |

In a full abdominoplasty, the belly button is detached from the surrounding skin, the abdominal skin flap is pulled downward to remove excess, and the umbilicus is brought out to a new natural position on the tightened skin. The shape of the belly button is carefully refined by your surgeon during closure.

Types of Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck addresses the entire abdomen — upper and lower — and is the appropriate procedure where skin laxity extends above the umbilicus. The incision runs along the lower abdomen just above the pubic hairline. The abdominal skin flap is raised to the lower sternum, the muscles are repaired, excess skin is excised, and the umbilicus is repositioned. SAFElipo[https://themobilebeauty.clinic liposuction] of the abdomen and flanks is performed at the same session. Full abdominoplasty takes three to four hours and is the most comprehensive abdominal rejuvenation available. From £8,500.

A removes loose skin from below the umbilicus only and is appropriate for patients with localised lower abdominal skin laxity and a BMI below 23. The incision is shorter, the belly button is not repositioned, and recovery is faster. Lower abdominal muscle tightening is included. SAFElipo™ is used for waist contouring. No drains are required. From £5,995.

The continues the incision around the flanks to address excess skin of the lateral trunk — appropriate for patients following major weight loss with skin laxity extending beyond the midline to the sides and lower back. From £10,000.

The adds a vertical midline incision to the standard horizontal lower incision — addressing both horizontal and vertical skin excess in patients following massive weight loss. Appropriate where the skin hangs in both planes. Priced at consultation.

The horizontal tummy tuck incision is placed at or below the C-section scar line, excising it as part of the skin removal. Patients with a C-section shelf — the overhanging skin fold above the scar — are well suited to this approach. See: .

Am I Suitable for a Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty is appropriate for patients with excess abdominal skin that has not responded to diet and exercise — either following pregnancy, significant weight loss or as a result of age-related skin laxity. It is not a weight-loss procedure.

Suitable candidates generally meet the following criteria:

Three patient groups in particular are well suited to abdominoplasty:

Preparing for Your Tummy Tuck

Once the cooling-off period has passed and you decide to proceed, the preoperative assessment team will contact you to complete your medical assessment and provide written preparation instructions.

Stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery and for a minimum of four weeks after. Smoking is the single most significant modifiable risk factor in abdominoplasty. It impairs circulation in the abdominal skin flap — significantly increasing the risk of wound breakdown, delayed healing and infection. Your surgeon or anaesthetist may postpone surgery if recent smoking is identified at assessment.

Stop aspirin and aspirin-containing medications at least one week before surgery. Stop anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen unless directed otherwise. Inform your surgeon of all medications, supplements and herbal products at consultation — several affect bleeding and healing.

Your weight should be stable for at least three months before surgery. If you are planning further weight loss, complete it before proceedingoperating on a body that is still changing reduces the longevity of the result.

Do not eat or drink for six hours before your procedure. Your preoperative instructions will specify whether clear fluids are permitted up to two hours before. Failing to observe the fasting period will result in postponement.

Arrange a responsible adult to escort you home and remain with you for at least the first 24–48 hours. Driving is not permitted for a minimum of two weeks after surgery — arrange alternative transport. If you have young children, arrange childcare assistance for at least the first three weeks.

Prepare a recovery area at home before your procedure. Have pillows available to support a slightly flexed position — the abdominal tightness in the first few days is most comfortable when lying with the hips and knees slightly bent. Collect your postoperative medication before the day of surgery.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Abdominoplasty at Centre for Surgery is performed as a day case at our . Patients are admitted and discharged on the same day — Centre for Surgery is one of a small number of providers in the UK that performs full abdominoplasty on this basis. A full tummy tuck takes three to four hours. Combined procedures — for example with breast surgery — take five to six hours.

All tummy tuck procedures at Centre for Surgery are performed under . TIVA is delivered entirely intravenously without inhaled anaesthetic gases. It allows continuous monitoring of anaesthetic depth throughout and is associated with faster recovery and less postoperative nausea than inhalational anaesthesia. Your consultant anaesthetist administers and monitors TIVA from start to finish.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Abdominoplasty has a longer and more involved recovery than most cosmetic procedures. Setting accurate expectations before surgery significantly improves the experience.

RELATED:

You are discharged the same day once the TIVA effects have resolved and the nursing team is satisfied with your condition. You will leave with drains in situ, a compression garment fitted, written aftercare instructions and the 24/7 clinical support number. A responsible adult must accompany you home and remain with you overnight.

Drains are removed at the clinic two to three days after your procedure. Do not remove them yourself. Drain output typically reduces significantly by day two to three.

The abdominal tightness is the primary sensation — most patients describe it as a firm, constant pressure across the abdomen. This is normal and resolves progressively. Walking with a slightly bent posture is expected for the first week. Pain is managed with paracetamol. Avoid driving for two weeks. Most patients take two weeks off work for desk-based roles; more for physically demanding work.

Worn continuously for six weeks. Remove only briefly for showering. It reduces swelling, supports the repaired muscle layer and promotes even skin retraction.

Short, gentle walks from day one are encouraged to reduce DVT risk. Avoid lifting, bending and strenuous activity for six weeks. Light gym work can resume from around six weeks. Abdominal core exercises — sit-ups, planks — must be avoided for a minimum of three months to allow the repaired muscle layer to heal fully.

Face-to-face surgeon review. Most swelling will have resolved and the profile of the result will be clearly visible. Scar management guidance begins at this appointment.

The horizontal scar sits low on the abdomentypically within the bikini line. It will be red and raised for the first few months, then fade progressively. Most scars reach their final appearance between 12 and 24 months. Scar management with silicone and sun protection is discussed at your six-week review.

Initial results visible from six to eight weeks. Full result — including final scar maturation — visible at 12 to 18 months.

What Can Be Combined with a Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty combines well with several procedures, and combining them in a single session is often more efficient than staging separately — one anaesthetic, one recovery period, one set of costs.

The most common combination — abdominoplasty with breast surgery (augmentation, lift or both). Addresses the two areas most affected by pregnancy in a single procedure. See the dedicated for full details.

Frequently combined with abdominoplasty in post-pregnancy patients who wish to address both the abdomen and the breasts in one session. Combined procedure time is five to six hours.

Where circumferential midsection contouring is required, 360-degree liposuction of the flanks and back can be added to abdominoplastyextending the contouring effect beyond the abdomen.

Where the mons pubis has descended or has excess fat, mons lift can be performed alongside abdominoplasty through the same incision.

The tummy tuck incision is placed to excise the C-section scar as part of the skin removaladdressing both the scar and the skin laxity in one procedure.

In post-weight-loss patients with excess skin across multiple areas, arm lift and thigh lift can be staged alongside abdominoplasty. Your surgeon will advise on staging at consultation.
