LipLase Laser Lip Enhancement at Centre for Surgery, London
LipLase in summary: A non-surgical laser treatment that plumps and defines the lips by stimulating collagen — without filler injection. Performed in 30-minute sessions using Fotona’s Er:YAG laser. From £300 per session at Centre for Surgery, with course-of-3 packages from £850. CQC-regulated clinic, GMC-registered practitioners, 0% APR finance available subject to status.
LipLase uses controlled laser energy applied both inside the mouth and along the lip border to stimulate new collagen and elastin in the deeper layers of the lip tissue. The result is gradual, natural-looking lip enhancement — fuller volume, sharper definition along the vermilion border, and softening of fine lines around the mouth — without injectable filler.
The treatment is suitable for patients who want subtle lip enhancement without the volume change of hyaluronic acid filler, who have a needle phobia, who’ve had complications with filler in the past, or who prefer a biological approach to rejuvenation. It’s also a useful complement to — boosting natural collagen between filler top-ups.
Important: LipLase is not appropriate for treating dark or pigmented lips. The Er:YAG wavelength is not designed for pigment correction.
For patients with significant lip volume loss or asymmetry, hyaluronic acid or surgical will give a more dramatic result. Your practitioner will tell you directly at consultation which path suits your case.
LipLase pairs well with other Fotona treatments — most commonly for full-face rejuvenation or for the eye area — at reduced bundled pricing.

What is LipLase Laser Lip Enhancement?
LipLase is a non-surgical laser treatment developed by Fotona for lip enhancement. It uses two laser wavelengths from the Fotona SP Dynamis system — Er:YAG and Nd:YAG — applied in sequence to stimulate collagen production in and around the lips.
LipLase delivers controlled heat to the deeper layers of the lip tissue without ablating the surface. The Er:YAG laser in non-ablative SMOOTH mode is applied first, including from inside the mouth, to heat the lip tissue and stimulate immediate collagen contraction. The Nd:YAG laser in PIANO mode then follows, delivering deep bulk heating to the lip border and surrounding skin to support longer-term collagen and elastin remodelling.
This combination produces two effects: an immediate plumping response (visible within hours of treatment as collagen contracts) and gradual structural enhancement over the following weeks as new collagen is laid down by fibroblasts.
uses hyaluronic acid injected directly into the lip tissue to add immediate volume. LipLase uses laser energy to stimulate the body to produce its own collagen — slower-acting, more subtle, and entirely needle-free. They’re complementary rather than competing: filler adds external volume, LipLase improves the underlying tissue quality.
LipLase doesn’t produce the dramatic volume change of hyaluronic acid filler — patients expecting filler-level results will be disappointed. It also doesn’t correct lip pigmentation & sun damage, https://www.tlcark.com,, doesn’t reposition the lip anatomically (which surgical does), and isn’t appropriate for treating dark or heavily pigmented lips.
LipLase Before & After Photos
The cases below show real LipLase results from patients treated at Centre for Surgery. We only publish photographs where the patient has provided written consent.
Setting realistic expectations. LipLase produces subtle, gradual enhancement rather than the dramatic volume change of injectable filler. Patients who come in expecting filler-level results are usually disappointed; patients who come in for natural enhancement and improved lip texture are typically very pleased. Your practitioner will discuss what’s realistic for your lips at consultation.
Benefits of LipLase
LipLase has a clear and narrow set of strengths. Below is a realistic summary.
LipLase is performed using laser handpieces only. There are no injections, no hyaluronic acid filler, no risk of vascular occlusion or filler-related complications. For patients with a needle phobia, or who’ve had a poor experience with filler, this matters.
Because the volume increase comes from your own collagen — not injected material — the result is gradual and looks natural. There’s no risk of "duck lips" or filler migration. Patients who want enhancement that other people don’t immediately notice as cosmetic work are typically the best candidates for LipLase.
Most patients return to normal activities the same day. Mild swelling and possible light surface peeling for 24–48 hours is the typical recovery. There’s no extended recovery period and no need to take time off work.
The Er:YAG laser tightens the edge between lip and surrounding skin, sharpening the vermilion border. As lips age, this border softens and blurs — LipLase restores definition without the artificial look that overfilled lip borders sometimes produce.
Because the laser energy extends into the perioral skin, LipLase often softens fine vertical lines around the mouth — including smoker’s lines — as a secondary benefit.
The collagen stimulation continues for 4 to 6 months after each session. Patients on a maintenance protocol often see continued improvement, not just preservation of the result.
For patients who’ve had hyaluronic acid filler dissolved due to migration, lumpiness, or other complications, LipLase is a sensible next step — it provides subtle improvement without reintroducing injectable material.
For patients who want significant volume increase, remains the more dramatic option. For patients with a long upper lip causing the lip border to sit far below the nose, surgical repositions the lip anatomically — which laser can’t do. For dark or pigmented lips, LipLase is not appropriate; we’ll discuss other options at consultation.
Who is Suitable for LipLase? LipLase vs Lip Filler vs Lip Lift
LipLase is suitable for patients aged 18 and over with mild lip thinning, soft vermilion borders, fine lines around the mouth, or interest in subtle natural enhancement.
A face-to-face consultation is required before any LipLase treatment is booked. The practitioner will examine your lips, discuss your medical history, and tell you directly whether LipLase is the right answer for your case — or whether a different treatment would suit you better.
The LipLase Procedure
A LipLase session takes around 30 minutes and uses two Fotona laser modes in sequence — one targeting the lip surface and inside the mouth, the other targeting the deeper tissue around the lip border.
Most patients describe the sensation as a gentle warming with brief moments of more focused heat. The intra-oral portion of treatment can feel slightly more intense than the external pass, which is why some patients opt for topical numbing on the external lip skin. There is no needle insertion, no anaesthetic injection, and no general anaesthetic.
The treatment itself is around 30 minutes. With check-in, photographs, and aftercare advice, allow up to 45 minutes for the full appointment.
For meaningful collagen remodelling and visible lip enhancement, our practitioners typically recommend a course of four to six sessions spaced two to four weeks apart. Each session adds incrementally to the result. After the initial course, maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months help preserve the enhancement over time.
LipLase Aftercare and Recovery
LipLase recovery in summary: Mild swelling for 24–48 hours and light surface peeling on day 2–3 are the typical recovery experiences. Most patients return to normal activities the same day. No time off work needed. Three predictable healing phases follow each session.
Phase 1 — first 2 to 3 days: Mild swelling is normal and is the expected response to laser-induced heat. The lips may feel warm and slightly tight for the first 30 to 60 minutes after treatment. A cold compress (wrapped in a clean cloth) can help with the swelling sensation.
Phase 2 — 24 to 48 hours after Phase 1: Mild surface peeling on the lips is normal and indicates the surface skin is renewing. Apply lip balm regularly to keep the lips moist. Don’t pick or pull at peeling skin — it will resolve on its own.
Phase 3 — weeks to 6 months: Neocollagenesis (new collagen production) develops gradually over the months that follow. The plumping and definition effect builds incrementally, with the full benefit of each session typically visible at 4 to 6 months after treatment.
If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), your practitioner will have prescribed antiviral prophylaxis before treatment. Take this exactly as directed. Laser treatment to the lips can trigger a cold sore outbreak in patients with prior infection, and prophylaxis significantly reduces this risk.
If you develop unusual swelling that doesn’t resolve within 3 days, signs of infection (pus, increasing redness, warmth, fever), a cold sore outbreak despite prophylaxis, or any concerns, contact the clinic on . Side effects beyond the predictable phases above are uncommon but should always be reviewed.
Expected Results from LipLase
LipLase produces gradual, layered results — an immediate response visible within hours of each session, plus longer-term collagen remodelling that develops over months.
A mild plumping effect is often visible within hours of the first session. This is the immediate collagen contraction response — the heat causes existing collagen fibres to tighten, producing a temporary visible enhancement. Most of this initial response is genuine collagen contraction; some is also mild post-treatment swelling, which resolves over the first 24–48 hours.
The longer-term improvement develops as fibroblasts produce new collagen and elastin in the treated tissue. This is the biological enhancement that makes LipLase results meaningful — the lip gains genuine structural fullness and improved texture, not just temporary heat-induced swelling. The full benefit of a session is typically visible at 4 to 6 months.
A standard course is 4 to 6 sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Each session builds on the previous one. Most patients see visible improvement after 2–3 sessions, with the most pronounced result evident 4 to 6 months after the final session.
Without maintenance, the structural improvements gradually erode over 12 to 18 months as the natural ageing process continues. With maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months, results can be preserved indefinitely. Patients on long-term maintenance often see continued improvement over multiple years, not just preservation of the original result.
LipLase produces subtle, gradual enhancement. It does not replicate the immediate volume change of injectable , and it doesn’t reposition the lip anatomically the way surgical does. Patients who come in expecting filler-level volume change are typically disappointed; patients who come in for natural enhancement and improved lip texture are usually very pleased.
For patients who want subtle ongoing enhancement plus a small amount of immediate volume, the most common combination is a course of LipLase followed by a small amount of conservative 4 to 6 weeks after the LipLase course completes. This combination delivers both biological enhancement and a small amount of injected volume.
Combining LipLase with Other Treatments
LipLase works well as a standalone treatment but is also frequently combined with other facial treatments at Centre for Surgery. The right combination depends on what you’re trying to address.
is the full-face Fotona protocol — four laser modes applied across the face and neck in a single 60–90 minute session. Patients booking Fotona 4D often add LipLase to address the lips in the same visit. When LipLase is bundled with a Fotona 4D treatment course, the pricing is reduced (£250 single / £650 course of 3 as an add-on, vs £300 / £850 for LipLase standalone).
For full pricing on combined Fotona 4D and LipLase protocols, see our .
is the same Fotona platform applied to the upper and lower eyelids. Patients combining LipLase and SmoothEye typically want subtle, biologically-driven rejuvenation around both the lip and eye areas without injectables. The two treatments can be delivered in the same visit. SmoothEye is similarly priced as a bundled add-on.
and LipLase are complementary rather than competing. A typical combination protocol is a course of LipLase first (to improve underlying lip tissue quality and stimulate collagen) followed by a conservative dose of hyaluronic acid filler 4 to 6 weeks after the LipLase course completes. The filler adds the immediate visible volume; the LipLase improves the underlying lip texture and definition. Many patients find this combination produces a more natural-looking result than filler alone.
For patients with both lip thinning and dynamic perioral lines (the lines that only appear when pursing the lips or smiling), in the upper lip area pair well with LipLase. We typically deliver any anti-wrinkle injections at least 7 days before or after a LipLase session.
For patients who’ve had hyaluronic acid filler dissolved due to migration, lumpiness, or other complications, a course of LipLase 6–8 weeks after dissolution is a sensible next step. It supports the lips’ own collagen production without reintroducing injectable material.

What To Expect
A face-to-face consultation at our Baker Street clinic with one of our GMC-registered aesthetic practitioners is the first step. The practitioner will examine your lips, ask about your concerns and medical history, and assess whether LipLase is the right answer for your case. For some patients, hyaluronic acid lip filler will give a more dramatic result. For others with a long upper lip, surgical lip lift repositions the lip anatomically. We will tell you directly which option suits you best. If LipLase is appropriate, the practitioner will recommend a treatment plan — typically a course of four to six sessions, two to four weeks apart. If you have a history of cold sores, antiviral prophylaxis will be prescribed to take before treatment. High-resolution photographs are taken for your records and to compare progress at later sessions. A mandatory two-week cooling-off period applies before your first treatment is booked. Consultations last around 30 minutes. You are welcome to come back for further consultations free of charge if you have additional questions.
On the day of treatment, the lips and surrounding skin are cleansed. If you have a history of cold sores, antiviral prophylaxis should already have been started before this appointment. Topical numbing cream can be applied for 20 to 30 minutes if you prefer additional comfort, though most patients tolerate the treatment without it. The practitioner then works through two Fotona laser modes in sequence. Step 1 is the Er:YAG laser in non-ablative SMOOTH mode, applied both from inside the mouth (against the inner lip tissue) and externally along the vermilion border, oral commissures, philtral ridges, and Cupid's bow. The controlled heat raises the dermis temperature into the collagen-remodelling range without breaking the skin surface. Step 2 is the Nd:YAG laser in long-pulse PIANO mode, applied to the lip border and surrounding skin to support deeper collagen and elastin remodelling. Most patients describe the sensation as a gentle warming with brief moments of more focused heat. The full sequence takes around 30 minutes. Once complete, the lips are cooled with a soothing post-procedure compress and aftercare advice is provided.
LipLase is associated with limited downtime. The healing follows three predictable phases: Phase 1 (first 2 to 3 days): Mild swelling, normal and expected as the laser-induced heat response. Phase 2 (24 to 48 hours after Phase 1): Light surface peeling on the lips. Apply lip balm regularly. Phase 3 (weeks to 6 months): New collagen production develops gradually. Most patients return to normal activities the same day or the next morning. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ to the lips daily for at least 4 weeks; avoid hot drinks and very spicy foods for 24 hours; mineral-based lip products are fine from day 2. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot showers, and intense exercise for 48 hours, and swimming for 7 days. Avoid direct sun exposure on the lips and sunbeds for at least 4 weeks. Don't pick or pull at peeling skin.
A mild plumping effect is often visible within hours of the first session — this is the immediate collagen contraction response from the laser energy. The longer-term structural improvement then develops gradually over the following 4 to 6 months as new collagen and elastin are laid down by fibroblasts. A standard course is four to six sessions, two to four weeks apart. Each session builds on the previous one. Most patients see visible improvement after 2 to 3 sessions, with the most pronounced result evident 4 to 6 months after the final session. Maintenance sessions every 6 to 12 months help preserve the result over time. Realistic expectation: LipLase produces subtle, gradual enhancement. It does not replicate the immediate volume change of injectable lip filler, and it doesn't reposition the lip anatomically the way surgical lip lift does. Patients who come in expecting filler-level volume change are typically disappointed; patients who come in for natural enhancement and improved lip texture are usually very pleased.
